Eligibility Requirements

For High School Students
  • Must be a graduating high school senior.
  • Maintain a least 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale. Please send in current transcript or end of the year transcript.
  • Conduct at least 20 hours of community service with a local organization. Please verify by sending in Proof of community service hours.
  • Must submit at least 2 letters of recommendations from teachers, religious leaders, and/or political representatives.
  • Submission of 2-3 page typed, double-spaced essay, size 12, Times New Roman Font, on (a) How has your education contributed to who you are today (b) describe how you have demonstrated leadership ability both in and out of school (c) discuss a special attribute or accomplishment that set you apart from others (d) describe your most meaningful achievement (e) and why are you a good candidate to receive this award.
  • Be accepted for admission at an approved accredited institution of higher education in a Program of study that leads to a degree.
  • Provide a copy of the acceptance letter and certification of enrollment issued from a two or four year college or university.
For Current Recipients
In order to continue receiving the scholarship once in a College or University:
  • Students will have to maintain a yearly GPA of 3
  • GPA for each year will be verified by the student submitting yearly transcript(s) to the Foundation’s Office no later than June 1st of each year
  • Students must attend the yearly scholarship ceremony to be held in July of each year
    • Students who are not able to attend the yearly scholarship ceremony are required to email
      • Subject title should be “Scholarship Recipient Unable to Attend Scholarship Ceremony”.
        The email should explain why the recipient cannot make it to
        the ceremony.
      • In order for the recipient to still receive the scholarship for that year, the
        explanation needs to be approved by the Foundation.

Deadline for Submission

Entries must be submitted by June 1st and must be accompanied by a separate sheet of paper stating your name, email address, home address, telephone number, and the high school from which you graduated.

A panel of judges will choose the winner based on the strength of his/ her essay, community involvement and recommendations.

The award will be in the amount of $1,000.00 a year for four years of college or University. The deadline for submission of all applications is June 1st of each year.

Dear Mr. Hawthorne,

I would like to thank you and the Mavis & Ephraim Hawthorne Golden Krust Foundation for selecting me to receive this years scholarship. The awards ceremony is one i will always remember because of the pride I felt of having the Jamaican culture a part of my heritage. I sincerely want to thank you for investing in my future and with your help I am off to a great start. As I embark on my college education at Fordham University, I do so knowing that I have your support.
